The Colorado Avalanche season started out pretty badly.
They lost their October 9th home opener against the Boston Bruins 5 – 4, the first ever home opener loss for the franchise since arriving in Colorado.

The following two games were losses as well.
A 2 – 3 loss to the Oilers and a 4 – 5 loss to the Flames.

There have been three games since the loss to the Flames all three won by the Avalanche.
The wins came against the Flyers 2- 5, the Stars 5 – 4 and the L.A. Kings (I hate the Kings) 4 -3.

The Av’s now sit at .500 which puts them in sixth place in the Western Conference with 6 points (6,6,6!!!).

It started out looking pretty sorry but the picture is a bit better now.
Milan Hejduk is pretty hot right now, 6 games played, 6 goals scored.
Ryan Smyth sits just behind Hejduk with 4 goals scored.

So, while it could look better it could also look a lot worse.

The net minder situation is a tad sketchy imo, at the same time I am glad that José Theodore is gone.
I like him, he played brilliant at times but never got his stride here in Colorado and it didn’t look like he ever would.

I wish him well in Washington.

Budaj and Roycroft aren’t making much of an impression so far imo.
I think Budaj should still be in the role of backup and a bigger name and than than Roycroft should have been gone after.

Of course, it is easy for me to say so as I don’t actually get to spend the Avalanches money and am not bright enough to know what available goalie would best fit in.

Peter Forsberg, we all love him here in Colorado but I for one am glad to not see him on the ice for the AV’s right now.

There are few in the world as exciting to watch as Peter Forsberg and very few are injured as often or as severely as Forsberg.

Despite his talent he is a liability, the club begins to rely on him and because of his never ending health issues he is unreliable.

I look forward to another full NHL season and all the excitement it brings, I believe the AV’s will make the playoffs and hope to see them go past the first round. But I would be beyond surprised to see them make a serious run at the Cup.

In honesty I believe part of the reason they [the AV’s] can’t be considered a serious contender for the Stanley Cup is because of who sit’s behind the bench now, Tony Granato.

The two biggest issues for the Colorado Avalanche, netminding and Tony Granato.

Highlights from the AV’s last game:
Having some kind of issue with embedding the video. I’ll try and figure it out before the next posting.
For now follow the link above to the video clip.
I’ll try to keep up weekly on the AV’s.
