Charges For Marine Deserter Unknown

Lance Hering was on leave from Iraq at his home in Boulder, Colorado in the summer of 2006 when he went missing.

Friend, Steve Powers, reported that Hering had fallen and hit his head while hiking in Eldorado Canyon. The report by Powers turned into the most expensive search and rescue operation in the history of Boulder county, it was also a lie.

Lance had not hurt himself and then wandered off mindlessly into the wilderness, he had deserted the United States Marines.

Lance Hering was finally located in Port Angeles, Washington November 16th of this year, taken into custody and currently resides in the brig at Camp Pendleton.

One of our local TV stations, KUSA, reported today that deserter Hering had been sentenced to thirty days and had received ‘credit’ for time served. My jaw dropped as I watched this. I was angry and could not believe what I had heard.

Turns out I was right not to believe it.

The Rocky Mountain News reports via an internet update:

“Lance Corporal Lance Hering’s status remains unchanged,” Marine First Lt. Tom Garnett, said this morning. “No determination has been made on what charges, if any, he will face. We’re still looking at that.”

Earlier this morning, The Rocky Mountain News’ Web site referenced a report by 9News saying Hering will spend 30 days in the brig, and get credit for time served while in Port Angeles, Wash., where he was arrested on November 16.

“We don’t know where that information came from, but it’s incorrect,” Garnett said.

Full article is here.

Very happy to read this.

Surely he will get more than a mere thirty days.

The dishonored Hering also faces local charges based upon the false report which resulted in the massive search and rescue mission and on a previous charge of attempted burglary.
