The 200th Birthday Celebration of Charles Darwin

February 12th marks the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin, the man who first developed and promoted the philosophy that all species evolved over a span of time from common ancestors.

It is philosophy rather than ‘theory’ because theory demands some kind of observable evidence. It is philosophy because this process of natural selection is a belief system lacking the support of observable evidence.

The, Darwin Day Celebration will be marked throughout the world.

The celebration is less a celebration of Darwin than it is a celebration of persons who believe they have triumphed over God, believing natural selection proves God does not exist. Worse still, it is a celebration by a good number of persons who make claim to Christianity and seek to water down God and who God is by denying creation and embracing natural selection.

To date 11,818 clergy of Christian churches have signed The Clergy Letter.

This letter states in part,

Within the community of Christian believers there are areas of dispute and disagreement, including the proper way to interpret Holy Scripture. While virtually all Christians take the Bible seriously and hold it to be authoritative in matters of faith and practice, the overwhelming majority do not read the Bible literally, as they would a science textbook. Many of the beloved stories found in the Bible – the Creation, Adam and Eve, Noah and the ark – convey timeless truths about God, human beings, and the proper relationship between Creator and creation expressed in the only form capable of transmitting these truths from generation to generation. Religious truth is of a different order from scientific truth. Its purpose is not to convey scientific information but to transform hearts.

There is a second paragraph to this letter which you can read on the site linked to above.

A couple things stand out right away.

the beloved stories found in the Bible – the Creation, Adam and Eve, Noah and the ark – convey timeless truths about God, human beings, and the proper relationship between Creator and creation

Religious truth is of a different order from scientific truth

I can only assume that the signers of the petition, given that they signed on to such a foolish text, are more evolutionists than they are Christian. That if faced with a conflict between the Word of God and the word of Darwin, they would defer to Darwin.

After all, isn’t that what they have already done?

How much smarter than God are these clergy members anyway?

I do not know the hearts of these persons and I am surely not capable of securing their salvation or denying them salvation. But it is their salvation they might seriously want to take into consideration at the time they blow out the 200 candles of Mr. Darwin’s cake.

These are people of two faiths that cannot coexist one denies the other.

More importantly, as clergy, these are people who others are looking to for spiritual leadership. They are failing those people and risk leading them from the truth.

I accuse the signers of forfeiting biblical integrity and attempting to conceptualize Christianity for a more “modern” and “sophisticate” world.

Where as clergy members are to ‘”feed the flock” the signers are in fact the equivalent of the parent who gives their child Lucky Charms cereal for breakfast every morning.

Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind

1st Peter 5:2

It is my understanding that God is not pleased when we lead others astray.

Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.

James 3:1
